Feeding Southwest Virginia, The Young Lawyers Division of The Virginia Bar Association and the Federation of Virginia Food Banks invite you to participate in the 2023 Legal Food Frenzy!
This campaign asks members of the legal community to form a team with their firm or interest group and contribute to fighting hunger in every corner of Virginia by donating, volunteering, and raising awareness for the issue of food insecurity in the Commonwealth. As part of a friendly competition, firms that have the largest impact for their region and beyond will be recognized with an invite to a special celebration and awards ceremony with the Virginia Office of the Attorney General.
Last year, we had THREE teams from Southwest Virginia recognized by the Attorney General for outstanding contributions to Legal Food Frenzy including the now two-time winner of the AG’s Cup, the Law Office of James Steele.

Competition Rules for 2023
In 2023, there are plenty of opportunities to earn points for your firm, office, or legal interest group!
All legal organizations with 99 or fewer employees will compete for a regional award in Southwest Virginia, based on your office location. Feeding Southwest Virginia will calculate this regional award solely on a per capita points basis (total points divided by # of office staff). Points are earned through fundraising and monetary donation, volunteering and food donation as follows.
- $1 donated / fundraised = 4 points
- 1 pound of food donated = 1 point
- Early registration bonus (before April 1) = 100 points
- Sign up to volunteer as a group = 500 points (one time only)
- Refer another firm as a first time participant = 1000 points per referral*
- To be eligible for referral bonus, the first time participant must earn points.
Private firm locations with 100 employees or more (large firm) will compete on a STATEWIDE level, with two chances to win! There will be one statewide award for large firm per capita giving and one statewide award for total giving.
In addition to private, large firm awards, there will be two statewide winners, respectively, for the ‘Corporate Legal Department,’ ‘Law School,’ and ‘Government & Public Service’ categories (one award for per capita giving and one award for total giving).
Finally, there will be ONE OVERALL STATEWIDE WINNER for the most money raised per capita of any participating entity with at least five office employees.
Firms with multiple office locations in different food bank regions must register each participating office separately. Points from multiple firm offices located in different regions will not be tallied together for the purposes of statewide recognition.
Please reach out to Joe Kessler or Joan Hawsey (contact info below) for more information or clarification on 2023 Legal Food Frenzy rules.

Corporate Partners receive recognition on Social Media, on the Food Bank Webpage, and will receive special digital supporter banners for use on any marketing collateral in 2023.
We will also have local prizes for competition categories that are not part of the formal statewide effort. Contact Feeding Southwest Virginia for more information about this.
